Welcome to Columbus General Surgery
When there is something wrong with your body, you want to return to good health as quickly as possible. Whether you have a hernia, a gastrointestinal disorder, problems with your veins, or a skin lesion, you need a medical expert who has the right training to diagnose your problem, determine the best treatment and perform the right procedure at the right time. Surgery requires precision, a steady hand, a willingness to always be learning and an incredible attention to detail. But on top of all that, a surgeon should also be a kind, comforting presence for patients who may be frightened, nervous or hesitant about their medical treatment.
At Columbus General Surgery in Columbus, Nebraska, our team of surgeons takes the time to get to know you and your individual needs. Not only do we have the expertise to give you the care you need, but we also walk you step by step through the process so you don’t feel overwhelmed.
Much has changed since we first opened our doors in 1987. Most procedures now have a minimally invasive option, and our patients spend much less time in the hospital than they did three decades ago. But one aspect of our practice remains the same: We are focused on healing your body.
Breast treatment
While breast cancer surgery is a common reason to seek treatment, there are other reasons you may need care, as well — including benign breast disease, breast infection and breast cysts. Our surgeons will help you find the treatment that works best for your unique needs.
da Vinci® Xi surgical system
Years ago, open surgery was the only option for patients. Now, surgeons are able to complete many procedures using minimally invasive, robotic technology.
Gastrointestinal treatment
From colon cancer and polyps to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and diverticulitis, our surgeons have experience treating a wide range of conditions. Come to us with your GI symptoms, and we will strive to find the right treatment.
Hernia surgery
A hernia is a soft or tender bulge in your abdomen or groin that may hurt when you cough, lift things or stand. In some cases, you may need to undergo surgery to repair the hernia. Our surgeons can help you find the right solution.
Same-day surgery
More and more procedures can be accomplished without requiring an overnight stay. Our surgeons, nurses and other caregivers care for you completely, from pre-op to post-op.
Skin treatment
From legions and cysts to skin abscesses and fatty tumors, there may be a number of reasons why you need a skin procedure. Our surgeons provide a full range of services, including diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer.
Vein procedures
Whether you need a port installed for cancer treatment or relief for varicose veins, our surgeons offer a variety of vein procedures that you may need.
Wound care
For patients who have continuing issues with wounds or problems following an ostomy, the caregivers in the Wound Ostomy Clinic (W.O.C.) provide effective treatments and solutions.
Returning you to the life you love
In 1987, Dr. Ron Ernst opened Columbus General Surgery in Columbus, Nebraska, to help community members with all their surgical needs. Eleven years later, Dr. Myron Morse joined him, and the two doctors continued to grow their practice. They both grew up in small towns — Ernst in Columbus and Morse in southwest Iowa — and harbored a particular love for rural medicine. Later, they added Dr. Jeremy Albin to the practice, and when Ernst retired in 2021, Dr. Jacob Oran came on board.
Together, Columbus General Surgery and Columbus Community Hospital have brought a new level of care to the community. They were instrumental in opening the Wound Ostomy Clinic (W.O.C.), located within suite 250 in the Healthpark Medical Office Building. Dr. Morse started the trauma program at the hospital, which is a Level III trauma center. The doctors at Columbus General Surgery treat both patients who have been referred by other providers in the area, and those who are self-referred.
